ASIA BIBI UPDATE… PROTESTS CONTINUE IN PAKISTAN AFTER ASIA ACQUITTAL

Protests continue in Pakistan after the Supreme Court decision to acquit Christian Asia Bibi of blasphemy charges.

Crowds have barricaded roads in Islamabad and other major cities, burned tyres and taken the streets in protest.

The International News, Pakistan, reports:

‘Demonstrations broke out in major cities across the country following the verdict, with approximately a thousand club-wielding demonstrators blocking Islamabad’s main highway as several roads in the port city of Karachi were barricaded by protesters sparking chaotic traffic jams.’

TV footage of the protests has been posted on Twitter: https://twitter.com/search?q=asia%20bibi%20protests&src=typd

But there are also some who are protesting against the protests. According to ‘Imam of Peace’ Asia Bibi’s acquittal has inflamed the nation more than the death of Osama bin Laden:

‘Pakistan didn’t protest like this against Osama bin Laden, but they’re protesting against Asia Bibi, a poor Pakistani Christian lady who drank water from the same cup as Muslims. They want her hanged immediately for “blasphemy”.’
