Kyrgyzstan: Eldos was beaten unconscious – but will not be silenced

Kyrgyzstan map

Kyrgyzstan mapEldos from Kyrgyzstan was beaten to within an inch of his life – for the ‘crime’ of turning to Christ.

The Christian was hospitalised with serious head injuries, including a broken jaw, and his attackers threatened to kill him if he went to the police.

But he ignored their threats and has spoken out, to try to protect other Christians.

Please ask God to protect Eldos and heal him fully.

His assailants ordered him to deny Christ and read a prayer converting back to Islam but he refused. Our partner reports that the police have not yet taken any action in Eldos’ defence.

  • Please ask God to heal Eldos, in his body, mind and spirit. Pray that He will renew in Eldos a steadfast spirit (Psalm 51:10).
  • Thank God for Eldos’ bravery in choosing to speak out about the attack. Pray that this decision will highlight persecution in Kyrgyzstan and cause officials to take action to protect minorities including Christians.
  • Pray that Eldos’ attackers will repent of their crimes and come to know the unconditional love of Christ for themselves. (Read more about our #Pray50 campaign here)

UPDATES

Continue to pray for Christians in Pakistan after Asia Bibi was acquitted of ‘blasphemy’ last week. The MMA, a cross-party alliance of conservative Muslims, plans to hold a ‘million march’ in Karachi today to protest against the Supreme Court’s decision (source: Dawn). Please pray that Asia, who is reported to have left prison, can now leave Pakistan in safety.

Praise God that rumours of an attack on the town of Vom in Plateau state, Nigeria (see Prayer Alert September 11) appear not to have materialised. Our contact reports that the situation there is currently peaceful although the area has witnessed many killings by Boko Haram and Fulani herdsmen. Our contact also reports hearing that many Fulani in northeast Nigeria have come to faith in Christ. Please keep praying for vulnerable Christian communities in northern Nigeria. Continue to remember in prayer Christians in Minya, Upper Egypt, where gunmen ambushed two buses carrying Christians to a monastery on Friday and shot dead seven passengers. At least seven other believers were injured, some seriously. (Source: Middle East Concern)
