May our Lord Jesus Christ Himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
2 Thessalonians 2: 16-17
Meet Zafar Bhatti and his wife Nawab. They live in Pakistan, a country where the minority Christian population faces regular discrimination. In 2012 Zafar was arrested and falsely accused of sending a blasphemous text message. He was later sentenced to life in prison.
He is serving his sentence in solitary confinement and is only allowed to leave his cell for a short walk once a day. He spends a lot of time reading his Bible. If finances permit Nawab visits every Thursday. She misses her husband desperately.
Imagine what it would be like to live in permanent solitary confinement. Imagine what it would be like to be forcibly separated from your spouse. Isolation and loneliness can lead to depression and a loss of hope. Encouragement is vital. How would you want someone to encourage you in those circumstances?
Write a short card of encouragement to Zafar and Nawab. Tell them that you have not forgotten them and are praying for them. Quote a Bible verse to reassure them of God’s love. Send your letter to Release International, Reach Out ZB, PO Box 54, Orpington, BR5 4RT. We will pass it on through our partners.
N.B. Please don’t mention Release International in your card, write about politics or criticise the authorities, and please don’t give your full name or any contact details.
