In her moving autobiography, Song of the Nightingale, Eritrean gospel singer Helen Berhane tells the inspiring story of how she was detained for two years because of her Christian faith and her unwillingness to renounce her beliefs. Despite the brutal beatings and abuse, which included being kept for prolonged periods in a metal shipping container in the scorching heat of the desert, Helen was able to show Christ’s love to her persecutors. This is a remarkable account of her triumphant faith.

The truth of Helen Berhane’s persecution is beyond my comprehension. However, I am thankful for the book’s frankness and detailed account of her suffering. She is a very brave person. Helen displays a warm and loving attitude toward all people. I cannot sufficiently express my thankfulness. I do know that prayer does make a difference. I have made prayer for the persecuted a priority and will encourage others to pray and read regarding Christian persecution. I cannot find the proper words to explain my appreciation for this book” Don Prince Pastor, Gentle Shepherd Community Church, Ontario, Canada
