Right now, as you read this appeal, Christians like Yalina* and her children are being persecuted and oppressed for following Jesus in Pakistan.
Yalina’s husband abandoned her when he found out that she had become a Christian. And her parents threw her and her three children out on the streets when she refused to give up her faith.
Yet as she fights to survive in challenging circumstances, Yalina is determined to grow in her faith and encourage others to believe in Jesus by sharing her story.
I hope you will take a few minutes to read Yalina’s story below and commit to praying for her…
And, if Yalina’s story touches your heart, I hope that you help more oppressed Christians like her by sending a gift of £50 or more to Release International today.
You see, Yalina came to Jesus in 2004 at a time when she was seriously ill, and she suffered from fits. The doctors told her that she would not survive and asked her family to prepare for her death.
At that time one of her friends suggested that she went to see a pastor who prayed for people to receive healing. Yalina felt she had nothing to lose so she went to see the pastor who told her “If you believe in Jesus, the Lord will heal you.”
Yalina was a Muslim, so she struggled with the idea of believing in Jesus, but she desperately wanted to live and see her three young children grow. So, she prayed and invited Jesus into her life.
Soon after that prayer, the Lord touched Yalina’s body and she was healed. She joined a local church and was eager to learn more about Jesus.
And this is when her troubles and persecution started.
Her Muslim husband was unhappy with Yalina’s faith. He sought a divorce and stopped providing for them. Desperate for help, Yalina and the children went to live with her parents, but they too tried to force her to give up her faith.
Often her father rebuked them for praying to Jesus. Why do you and your children pray like the sweepers (derogatory slang used for Christians in Pakistan)? – he said.
He started beating her and asked her to leave his house if she did not embrace Islam again.
Yalina and her children were homeless, scared, and cold. But not for long. Because one of our mission partners in Pakistan, supported by your gifts and prayers, was there to help them.
By giving generously to Release International in the past you enabled our partner to offer Yalina and her children a safe place to stay. You helped put food on their table and covered the children’s school fees.
And, above all, you encouraged Christians like Yalina spiritually by praying for them, and by providing much needed pastoral care through our partner’s local ministry team.
Thank you so much for everything you have done for hundreds, even thousands of oppressed and persecuted Christians like Yalina and their families in Pakistan, India, Egypt, Central Asia, China and elsewhere.
As oppression intensifies in Pakistan and other parts of our world will you send a special gift of £30, £50, or even £250 to Release International to help believers like Yalina?
A gift of £30 can provide a family in urgent need with a food parcel containing supplies that can last for a month.
A gift of £50 can ensure that isolated Muslim background believers in rural Pakistan receive pastoral visits.
A gift of £100 can provide vital monthly support to a Christian worker in Central Asia.
A gift of £250 can ensure life-transforming development to the home of an oppressed Christian family in Egypt, such as the provision of a roof.
By sending a gift right now you can enable our local partners to respond to discrimination and oppression that is ruining the lives of believers like Yalina.
What’s more, you can help provide biblical training for local pastors who are responsible for teaching believers how to stand strong in their faith and for offering pastoral care to those who are suffering.
We read in the bible verses 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
Together we can ease the suffering of believers like Yalina and help them see how God can answer their prayers through our love and kindness.
With every blessing,
CEO, Release International

Lord, we pray for all of our poor and marginalised brothers and sisters who, like Yalina, are really struggling with life today as they are oppressed simply because of their faith in You.
Father, these dear people suffer so much simply because they love You – and now find themselves even more marginalised in the communities where they live due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions.
Dear Lord, thank you that You continue to walk with them as they seek to survive with little or no work, wages or provisions. Help us to help them with prayers and gifts of money which can be used to support them both spiritually and physically.
Father, thank you for their faith in You, bless them and help them survive and to break out of this crushing cycle of oppression and poverty they have to live with.
In Your precious name we pray.
