Death of Brother Andrew

Brother Andrew

Brother Andrew, the founder of Open Doors, has died at the age of 94.

Dutch-born Brother Andrew (whose real name was Anne van der Bijl) was famous for smuggling Bibles into Eastern-European Communist countries behind the old Iron Curtain, at the height of the Cold War. This work led to the establishment of Open Doors.

We pray God’s grace and comfort for his family at this time, and also pray for those in the Open Doors organisation who knew him and loved him.

Release International CEO Paul Robinson said: “Richard Wurmbrand, whose life, suffering and heart for the gospel inspired the founding of Release International, died 21 years ago. Our desire is very much to hold on to Richard’s passion and commitment to supporting persecuted Christians. In the same way, we pray for our friends at Open Doors at this time as they continue to hold to the legacy of Brother Andrew.”
