At least 25 people have been killed and more than 60 injured in a suicide bomb attack on a church in Damascus, Syria.

An armed man entered the Mar Elias Greek Orthodox Church in the Dweila district during the Sunday evening service and opened fire with a weapon before detonating an explosive vest.
Around 350 people are believed to have been in the church at the time. One witness, Lawrence Maamari, said that ‘someone entered [the church] from outside carrying a weapon. When he began shooting people ‘tried to stop him before he blew himself up.’
Photos and video from inside the church show extensive damage and blood-spattered walls. Reports have suggested that the man was affiliated with the terrorist group Islamic State (IS).
